Ten Amazing Round Pillow Ideas
Ten Amazing Round Pillow Ideas!
Pillows are comforting. They add layers of warmth to any home. While square pillows are the norm, a little variety in your pillow world, can take your home decorating to new levels. Round or circle pillows are a creative persons dream. Let your creative side go a little wild, and circle pillows offer a wide range of imaginative options. For now, I’m going to show you ten fun, amazingly easy projects you can do using round pillow forms.
1. Make simple round pillows for your couch. Round pillows make a great contrast when used with square pillows or they make a fun contrast when used alone. Select fabric that matches or highlights the major color of fabric on your couch. Using several sizes of round pillow forms make several solid color pillows, then throw in a dash of Bohemian with several pillows made from floral patterns, geometric designs, or plaids. This is an easy, fun way to lighten up a tired living room or family room without replacing costly pieces of furniture.
2. Do you or a friend have a wedding in your future? You can create a wonderful ring bearer pillow using a small round pillow form. The small forms are perfect for those little hands that will be carrying your precious rings. You can easily match fabric to your wedding colors. Consider embroidering the bride and grooms names or initials to the fabric creating a beautiful addition and keepsake. Fabric choices can be as extravagant or elaborate as you want when sewn with traditional silks, satins, and lace. If your wedding is more simple and earthly, create a ring bearer pillow using simple cottons embellished with old-fashioned candle wicking. Another very romantic and traditional idea is to create fabric for your pillow either from vintage fabrics you’ve purchased or created with fabric from your mothers wedding dress, or other wedding attire. Remember to tack sew a lovely piece of ribbon into the center of your pillow. This allows you to tie the rings to the pillow in case those small hands get a little bit fidgety.
3. Do your parents have a special anniversary soon? Round pillows make the perfect frame for a photo pillow. The round pillow forms come in a variety of sizes, letting you fit the picture to the best size pillow. Nearly any photo shop, on-line photo shop, even Wal-Mart can put your photo on fabric. The round shape gives you a “fish-eye” view of a favorite portrait. The round shape gives you endless creative possibilities. For a vintage or Victorian look, that you might use with photos of grandparents, use tea-died fabric, with lace around the edge. For a bridal gift, use traditional white fabric, laces, and metallic thread. This idea can also be used as a great gift idea for new parents using a photo of their newborn, for grandparents with photos of all their grandkids, and it can easily be adapted to a teen’s room or a dorm room. Of course, teens and college kids are going to want something a bit less traditional in photos and fabric, use your imagination.
4. Are you tired of hard seats at the breakfast table or breakfast bar? Round pillows can easily remedy “hard butt syndrome”. Unlike square pillows, round pillow forms fit a wider variety of chair seat sizes. It’s easy to match fabric to your kitchen décor. You can keep it simple, or go a little bold by adding buttons, quilted tops, or even create wipeable chair covers using vinyl fabrics. Don’t forget those hard metal outdoor chairs. Use round pillow forms and outdoor fabric to give your deck or porch a quick decorating boost and give your butt a more comfortable seat.
5. Round dog pillows. Don’t forget your favorite furry friend. Round pillow forms make absolutely perfect dog beds. The can curl around, and around, and their variety of sizes allows you to fit the pillow to your dog. Of course, some of us have those small dogs that can stretch out long enough to require a large dog pillow, so take that into consideration. By adding a zipper to your pillow cover, you can easily unzip and wash the cover. Another great addition, particularly for those of you who live in a colder climate, is a blanket for your dog’s bed. This is especially helpful if you have a dog bred, that is not noted for a heavy fur coat.
6. A front porch or deck is just the right spot for round pillows, particularly during the summer months. We spend a lot of time outside on the deck and porch, so adding a bit of whimsy makes summer days more fun, memorable and comfortable when you add pillows. Think 4th of July, ice cream, blooming flowers, Americana bunting and happy round pillows on your patio chairs. By cutting red and white fabric in triangular wedges, then sewing them together to create a round pillow cover, you have instant, adorable pinwheel cushions for your patio chairs. With today’s great weather resistant fabrics, using large round pillows on your deck, patios chairs or around your campfire can make those summers evening last even longer.
7. Dream pillows. A bit new age, a bit aromatherapy, dream pillows can easily be created around your personal taste. Using round pillow forms and a small pocket between your pieces of fabric, you can have a wonderful addition to your bedroom.
First, you’ll want to make a trip to the health food store and gather a few items.
1 part rose petals
1 part dried chamomile
1 part lavender
1 small bottle of essential oil (your choice)
About 2 teaspoons of Orris Root. (This acts as a stabilizer for the other ingredients)
In a small non-metallic bowl, mix all together. To this, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. I personally enjoy lavender, peppermint, and jasmine.
You’ll want to cut out three layers of fabric for your round pillow form. One layer, which will become the “pouch” or inside layer where you’ll put your herbs, should be a slightly open weave material such as burlap, or open weave cotton. Sew this open weave material to the fabric that will be the pillow top, leaving a small opening. Through this opening fill with your herbal mixture, and then sew closed. Attach this to your backing fabric and fill with your round pillow form.
You now have a fragrant dream pillow for your bed. The fragrance will waft through your bedroom, and depending on what herbs you use, it could help you get a better nights sleep. All the ingredients can be found at your local health food store. Personnel at the store can also recommend different herbs and essential oils to help you breath better, relive headaches, and sleep better. Additional herbal information can be found in books at your local library.
8. If you are a romantic at heart, you can create a wonderful sweetheart pillow. Some of you might remember them from your grandparent’s bedrooms. Sweetheart Pillows are round pillows that were sometimes trimmed to resemble a heart shape. Ladies a generation or so ago, crocheted the front and back for the pillow form and between the crocheted fabric and the pillow form, they would add the flower petals from their wedding bouquet.
Most Sweetheart pillows today are round pillows forms with lovely crocheted covers. If you crochet or you can bribe someone who does, you can create your own Sweetheart Pillow by using round pillow forms and romantic yarns in colors like red, pink, rose, and burgundy. Several of these tossed across your bed give a wonderful romantic feel.
9. Don’t forget the kids! Circle pillows are absolutely perfect in a kid’s room. They can be covered with hundreds of different fabrics and accessories creating wheels, rocks, hockey pucks, whatever imaginative world your child inhabits. If your child loves reptiles, round pillows can slither across his bed. I’ve used camouflage fabric to cover four to six round pillow forms, and then stitched the forms together using heavy-duty thread. With the addition of two felt eyes and a red ribbon at one end and you have a great snake.
10. Another wonderful kid’s room idea is using the round pillow forms as eyes. They make incredible reptilian eyes. You’ll need two medium sized round pillow forms, several yards of black fabric, two pieces of white felt, and two pieces of black felt. Create a cover for your pillow forms using the black cotton fabric. Next, cut out a large round circle from the white felt. This will be the white of the eye. With the black felt, instead of a round “pupil” for the eye, cut it out in a slanted, or oblong shape. Attach the black felt to the round white felt circle, by either sewing together or using fabric glue. Then attach this to the black pillow cover. Viola, you have two really cool eyes. Place two of these eyeball pillows at the headboard of your kid’s bed over a dark green comforter and you have the makings of a serious swamp monster.
There are dozens of other ideas for round pillow forms. Don’t get stuck in a square pillow rut, round out your world and your imagination.

Turn Off the Scream of Emotional Eating

Turn Off the Scream of Emotional Eating
Do any of these situations sound familiar to you?
You are working on a big project for your job and it is coming together nicely. You are pleased with your progress and confident that your boss will be too. All of a sudden, you want to eat…perhaps something sweet, salty and crunchy.
The bakery down the street is only a couple of minutes away. You ate lunch less than an hour ago so you aren’t really hungry. You can’t stop thinking of eating your favorite baked items. Why?
You are on your way to school to meet with your child’s teacher for a routine mid-year conference. Your child is excelling in school so you anticipate it will be a positive conference about your child’s progress. No reason to be anxious, right? On the drive to go to school, you drive by your favorite fast food restaurant. You aren’t hungry yet you are have this overwhelming urge to drive through for something they serve. You drive through for a “quick bite” and are a few minutes late for the conference. What happened?
You received good news and you want to eat; you feel anxious or worried and you want to eat; you are feeling down for no particular reason that you can identify and you want to eat. What is this voice that is similar to a recording playing over and over in your head? Sometimes this voice is screaming and so overwhelming for the urge to give in. This is head hunger or emotional eating.
What exactly is emotional eating? Emotional eating is when we eat in response to situations and feelings other than true physical hunger. Emotional eating is a way to alleviate or calm emotions such as worry, boredom, sadness, or stress. Emotional eating is the urge to change the way you’re currently feeling to another more comfortable feeling. For example, you feel anxious and you don’t know what to do with this emotion of anxiety. You turn to food to calm you and bring your anxiety down. Sometimes even positive emotions can cause the urge to emotional eating. The key to leaving the voice of emotional eating unanswered is to be aware. Be aware that emotional eating is triggered when you eat to feed a feeling, whether consciously or unconsciously, rather than feed a physical hunger. Imagine a signal light of Stop-Look-Listen!
STOP means that you need to take a pause. Even if you’re on your way into the kitchen or drive-thru you need to Stop. Think it through. Fast forward to the feeling of guilt, shame and remorse you’ll feel after you eat. You’ll feel regret, shame, and self-depreciation. Awareness is in asking yourself if it is really worth it? Taking the pause to Stop is very important to silencing the voice of emotional overeating.
LOOK means that after you’ve completed Stop, Look inside yourself. What are you feeling? What do you need? Food isn’t the answer. Look to use your emotional eating as a barometer into what’s going on with you.
LISTEN means that you’ve identified what you’re feeling or the bothersome situation. Once you’ve identified the trigger to the emotional eating, you can Listen and emotionally process the feeling or situation. There are distinct differences between emotional eating and physical hunger are:
* If you are craving a certain food, and only that food will do (such as cookies, chips, pizza, or a certain unhealthy food choice), that is emotional eating. If you eat because you are experiencing physical hunger, you are open to food choices to satisfy that hunger.
* Emotional eating hunger strikes suddenly while physical hunger occurs gradually. Emotional hunger happens instantaneously and wants to be satisfied NOW. Physical hunger does not demand to be satisfied immediately and can be delayed.
* Emotional eating is usually a process that is ongoing and prolonged. You can’t seem to be satisfied and continue eating. The emotional eating is driven by feeling a sense of fullness inside you and is not driven by physical fullness. One of the behaviors associated with emotional eating is searching. You eat a food item and then find yourself searching for more or something else to feel satisfied and full. With physical hunger, you can stop eating when you feel a sense of satiety.
* Emotional eating causes you to feel guilt and shame afterwards. Negative self-talk usually results after emotional eating. Eating in response to physical hunger does not result in negative emotions or self talk. Eating to satisfy physical hunger is an act of self-care and nurturing, resulting in positive feelings from taking care of yourself.
Food can be a welcome distraction. If you are worried, i.e., about your presentation or a parent-teacher conference, food can take you away from your worry and distract you from your feelings. The distraction is only temporary and the situation or feelings return. In addition to the situation or feelings that you initially emotionally ate to cope, you now have added the negative feelings from the emotional eating episode.
When we have a headache or a physical discomfort, we take medication. Emotional eating is the same in that when we feel discomfort emotionally, we want to eat to stuff or bury the feeling or diminish the intensity. Food is for nourishment not for medicating! Emotional eating also serves to numb you and allow an emotional escape.
Here are some tips and what to do when you want to emotionally eat:
*Identify the urge to emotionally eat. Does it come on so rapidly that you haven’t recognized it previously? Instill a moment of pause (use the Stop-Look-Listen strategy) when the desire occurs. This will allow you the opportunity to deal with the situation and feelings causing the drive to emotionally eat.
*What is triggering the desire to emotionally eat? Check in with yourself. What situation or feeling is most prominent at the time? Are you feeling worried, sad, overwhelmed, or angry?
*Distract yourself in a healthy, positive way rather than with food. Make a list of things you can do when you feel that urge to eat over your emotions. Call a friend, read a book, take a walk, watch a movie, listen to your favorite music, dance, go outside and change your environment from the house (and kitchen), indulge in a bubble bath, or take a nap.
*Feel the feelings. Feelings are temporary. They can be used as a gauge as to what is going on inside you that needs your attention. Feelings will pass when they are experienced and allowed to come and go.
Be proactive and develop strategies for conquering emotional eating. Write a checklist of activities you can engage rather than emotionally eat. Many times the strongest compulsion for food occurs when you are feeling emotionally vulnerable. Many of us turn to food for comfort when faced with a situation, uncomfortable feelings, or looking to carve out time just for ourselves. Nurture yourself in other ways than food. Food is a temporary quick fix while self-comforting acts are long lasting. If you have given in to emotional eating, learn from it and start again. Make a plan by incorporating a new strategy for the future. Play it again – review the situation and feelings that you emotionally ate over and substitute another way of coping. Focus on the positive, healthy changes you’ve made in your life.
Empower yourself to silence the voice of emotional eating. Make your goal to be stronger than the pull of emotional eating. Remember the answer to handling situations and feelings lies inside of you and not in a bag of cookies.

IMPACTS OF FOOD PRODUCT ADVERTISEMENTS OF PAKISTAN TELEVISION ON THE EATING HABITS OF CHILDREN
By MALIK TARIQ MAHMOOD
INTRODUCTION
Television belongs to the family of audio-visual communication medium. It is able to transmit sounds and images carrying message of a varied nature and for a variety of purpose. It has strong influence on people, in the culture and on other media. It is a widely used telecommunication system for broadcasting and receiving moving pictures and sound over a distance from all around the world. The term may also be used to refer specifically to a television set, programming or television transmission. Television commercials have become one of the most effective, most persuasive, and most popular methods of selling products of many sorts.
Within Pakistani culture we need to look deeper at the role of television and advertisements, to assess why they hold such a valuable position. Pakistan Television is a permanent fixture in childrenâs lives. The television set is as familiar to children as the faces of family members. Television set is always there, to entertain and to give company to children, especially when no one else in the mood to play, chat or interact with them. They are increasingly being exposed to different cultures, absorbing new ideas and impressions about other cultures.
Many television advertisements are catchy jingles or catch-phrases that generate sustained appeal, which may remain in the minds of television viewers long after the span of the advertising campaign. Nowadays advertising spread in our entire culture influences in society and our fundamental patterns of life. Advertising can be seen as one of the factors that contribute to shape peopleâs life, their basic values, and attitudes. But actual picture is different, according to Edger âAdvertising is the art of making whole lies out of half truth.â1
Advertising has been watched in many ways: on Television, Newspapers, Billboards, Walls, Video, Internet and in many other forms. The protection of children from harm is linked directly to the issue of what affects observed from viewing television. The criticisms regarding watching television of children are linked to what they watch and for how long. Television advertising on food causes parental concern; parents try to control the television viewing of their children. Parental control of television viewing is expected to lower the number of hours of a child, which leaves impacts on their health.1
Todayâs children are our future and unique in many ways from previous generation. But perhaps the most influencing factor on childrenâs health is television advertisements. There are general concerns of parents that television advertising has negative influence intended or unintended on childrenâs health.
Advertising is the structured and composed nonpersonal communication of information, usually paid for and usually persuasive in nature, about products by identified sponsors through various media. Advertising companies naturally communicate to large number of people about their products. There is nothing wrong with that, as it allows innovative ideas and concepts to be shared with others. However, as the years have progressed, the advertising methods and techniques have become advance, appealing, shaping, and even creating consumerâs needs where there has been none before, or turning luxuries into necessities.2
Mass advertising is no longer solely a means of introducing and distributing products, though it does that. It is a major mechanism in the ability of a relatively small number of giant corporations to hold disproportionate power over the economy. These corporations need newspapers, magazines, and broadcasting not just to sell their goods but to maintain their economic and political influence. The media are no longer neutral agents of the merchants but essential gears in the machinery of corporate gigantism, and increasingly they are not only needed but they are owned by the corporate giants.3
HISTORY OF ADVERTISING
Advertising is as old as civilization itself. The earliest beginnings of advertising, of course, are impossible to pinpoint, but there are several examples dating back thousands of years. In early days, signboards were placed above the doors of business establishments, and later, the town crier was an important advertising medium. Advertising was a well established part of the social environment of early civilizations. However, until the advent of mass selling in the 19th century, advertising played only a minor role in the conducting of business.4
After the invention of printing handbills, posters and then newspapers were used in increasing the quantities of advertise products. The development of railroad transportation enabled advertising industry to send its products to consumers who lived far from the manufacturing plants. Advertising assumed national character as business people used both newspapers and television to broaden their markets.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The advertising of food products of Pakistan Television impact on childrenâs health â eating disorder and they become obese and idle. The researcher interested to investigate these impacts of food-products advertising on the health of children.
OBJECTIVES
The study was conducted while keeping following objectives in mind:
i) To investigate childrenâs viewing habits of Pakistan Television
ii) To find out impacts of advertising on childrenâs health
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Although there are many beneficiaries of the study but the main beneficiaries are parentsâ, and personnel of advertising agencies. All parents want to provide good food to their children for healthy life. The results of the study will show the parents about impact of advertising on the health of their children and will help them to compensate these affects.
LITERATURE REVIEW
This chapter has been divided into five parts. The first part describes some general things about Television advertising. The second part of the chapter is explaining theory of the advertising; how the advertisements affect the health of children and their lives. The third part explains the role of advertising in the society. The fourth part describes the health of children and their BMI. The fifth part of the study explores the negative impacts of ads on the health of children of 8 to 12 years.
Television is an important socialisation agent; it is present in childrenâs lives. Many advertisements broadcast on television are the creations of brilliant minds that want to persuade them to purchase the advertised products. Evidence are mounting that marketing to children is harmful. Nearly every aspect of childrenâs lives has been adversely affected by recent trends of advertising. Research links advertising to increased obesity and eating disorders in children because they are vulnerable to persuasive messages. According to Media scholar Gorge âTelevision has become unavoidable and unremitting factor in shaping that what we are and what we will become.â1
The children under the age of eight are unable to critically comprehend televised advertising messages and are prone to accept advertiser messages as truthful, accurate and unbiased. This can lead to unhealthy eating habits as evidenced by todayâs youth. This is a critical concern because the most common products marketed to children are cereals, candies, sweets, sodas and snack foods. Advertising of such unhealthy food products to young children contributes to poor nutritional habits that may last a lifetime and be a variable in the current epidemic of obesity among kids.2
TELEVISION ADVERTISING
A consumer exposed hundreds commercial messages every day. They may appear in the form of billboards, newspapers, television commercials, etc. It is actually a very structured form of applied communication, employing both verbal and nonverbal elements that are composed to fill specific space and time formats determined by the sponsor. First and foremost, advertising is communication â a special kind of communication. Traditionally, advertising has been principally a one-way process, but with todayâs new interactive technology, consumers can give feedback to advertising messages in real time using the same channels as the sender. Most advertising is intended to be persuasive â to win converts to a product, service, or idea. Some ads, such as legal announcements, are intended merely to inform, not to persuade. But they are still ads because they satisfy all the other requirements of the definition.3
The issues surrounding advertising directed to children are related to certain commercial campaigns primarily targeting children. Cold-drink advertisements are commonly shown during sports events and seen by millions of children, creating brand familiarity and motivating children for buying. They have been exposed television more than 15 edible ads during one hour programme and when they watch television 4 hours a day that means they saw one productâs ad around 20 times in one sitting. This is referred to graph no. 15 at page 34.
Advertising is persuasive and informational influence on the behaviour of the audience. Advertising is also a marketing tool and may be used in combination with other marketing tools, such as sales promotions, personal selling tactics, or publicity. But the actual picture is different, according to Edger âAdvertising is the art of making whole lies out of half truth.â
The impact of television advertising is the greatest among children. The children like television commercials more than elder group, and they are also more deeply influenced by the catchy appearance of advertiser on their lives.
Advertising aimed at children is based on three concerns, first, it is believed that advertising promote superficially and values founded in material goods and consumption. Second, children are considered inexperienced consumers and easy prey for the sophisticated persuasion of advertisers. Third, advertising influences children demand for everything from toy to snack food.4
THE ROLE OF ADVERTISING
Advertising plays a vital role in the economic system of a country. It helps in selling ideas, goods, and services. Advertising both reflects and affects our lifestyles, and thus, plays a substantial social role. Advertising has become so close to our life, therefore, it serves multidimensional communication needs of society. Business firms, labour unions, government agencies, and political leaders are successfully employing advertising to inform and persuade people about their purpose.
Kapoor gives the four points of role of advertising: First, the countryâs gross national product is greater and the standard of living is higher than they would otherwise be. Advertising creates jobs with a greater variety of products, and improves the quality of products and increase the economy of country. Second, argument of Kapoor is that advertising plays a major role in informing the consumer so that more intelligent choices are made in the marketplace. Third, rationale for advertising is that the firmâs cost of production per unit of output is lower because advertising increases demand for the firmâs output, so, advertising leads to more efficient use of resources in the economy. Finally, she says that advertising leaves the impacts either positive or negative on the general masses as well as on children. These impacts are changed according to the culture and environment.5
The above mentioned four points are whole picture of advertising that advertisers want to achieve. This same situation can be found in Pakistan. So, no one can able to explore all the aspects of advertising at this level because so many hurdles are there, such as lack of resources, shortage of time.
CHILDRENâS HEALTH
Every parent consciously and keenly observes the health of their children in all society. But parents are more attached with their children in Pakistani society because children are their future and they will help in finances when parents will retire. All parents like to provide good food to their children for their health and give proper education for making them a good citizen. Both parents are working because they want to improve their living standard; this is referred to graph no. 4. Some times parents over looks childrenâs activities i.e. what and when they eat? When and how they watch television? Why they become obese and idle? 6
Actually the researcher will explore the answer of all these questions because these questions are mainly related with the study.
Health experts have linked excessive watching television to obesity – a significant health problem today. While watching television, children are inactive to buy such products. They are also bombarded with advertising messages that encourage them to buy and eat unhealthy foods such as potato chips, burgers, pastries etc. and empty-calorie soft drinks that often become preferred snack foods. Indirectly advertising leave too much affect on children’s health. Even if children are watching 4 hours of quality educational programs on television in a day, that means they are not exercising, reading, socializing, or spending time outside. But some studies have shown that decreasing the amount of television watching by children led to less weight gain and lower body mass index increase, and make them idle that is not better for their health.7
BODY MASS INDEX (BMI)
Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to estimate healthy weight of average people. A BMI of 20 to 24 is desirable for most adults. A person with a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, and a person with a BMI of 30 or above is considered obese. Obesity is associated with an increased risk for heart disease, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases.
The body mass index (BMI) is commonly used to determine desirable body weights. BMI is a measure of an adultâs weight in relation to height, and it is calculated metrically as weight divided by height squared (kg/m2).
Body mass index only provides a rough estimate of desirable weight; however, physicians recognize that many other factors besides height affect weight. Weight alone may not be an indicator of fat, as in the case of a bodybuilder who may have a high BMI because of a high percentage of muscle tissue, which weighs more than fat. Likewise, a person with a sedentary lifestyle may be within a desirable weight range but have excess fat tissue. However, the higher BMI is greater the risk for developing serious medical conditions.
BMI Chart for Boys
Body Mass Index (BMI) percentiles for boys, from two to twenty years, so that you can track your childâs growth curve and see if they are underweight, overweight or just right.
BMI Chart for Girls
Body Mass Index (BMI) percentiles for girls, from two to twenty years, so that you can track your child’s growth curve and see if they are underweight, overweight or just right.
What is Fat?
Fats, or lipids, are nutrients in food that childrenâs body uses to build nerve tissue (like the brain) and hormones. The body also uses fat as fuel. If fats that children have eaten are not burned as energy or used as building blocks, they are stored by the body in fat cells. This is body’s way of thinking ahead: By saving fat for future use, the body plans for times when food might be scarce.
Fat gives food flavour and texture, but it’s also high in calories, and excess amounts of fatty foods as with excess amounts of any food can cause many health risks. For children and adolescents, desserts and snacks including potato chips, chocolate, cakes, doughnuts, pastries, and cookies are a significant source of fat. Children also get fat from whole milk products and high-fat meats, such as fried and spicy meat. Of course, fast-food and take-out meals tend to have more fat than home cooking; and in restaurants, fried dishes are the highest in fat content. Fat also often “hides” in foods in the form of creamy, cheesy, or buttery sauces or dressings.
Still, though, fat is an important part of a healthy diet when the children eat the right kinds of fats especially those from certain kinds of fish in recommended amounts. Like carbohydrates in recent years, fats have been wrongly accused of being âbadâ. Although some definitely better than others, certain kinds of fat are actually good for teenager and children an important part of a healthy diet.
Obesity increases the risk of developing disease. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, almost 70 percent of heart disease cases in the United States are linked to excess body fat, and obese people are more than twice as likely to develop hypertension. The risk of medical complications, particularly heart disease, increases when body fat is distributed around the waist, especially in the abdomen. This type of upper body fat distribution is more common in men than in women.8
CAUSES OF OBESITY
A calorie is the unit used to measure the energy value of food and the energy used by the body to maintain normal functions. When the calories from food intake equal the calories of energy the body uses, weight remains constant. But when a person consumes more calories than the body needs, the body stores those additional calories as fat, causing subsequent weight gain.
Obesity, medical condition characterized by storage of excess body fat. The human body naturally stores fat tissue under the skin and around organs and joints. Fat is critical for good health because it is a source of energy when the body lacks the energy necessary to sustain life processes, and it provides insulation and protection for internal organs. But the accumulation of too much fat in the body is associated with a variety of health problems. Studies show that individuals who are overweight or obese run a greater risk of developing diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some forms of cancer.9
The causes of obesity are complex and include some factors. Basically, obesity occurs when a person eats more calories than the body burns up. The children have an 80 percent chance of being obese if their parents are obese. Obesity in childhood and adolescence can be related to:
i) Poor eating habits
ii) Overeating habits
iii) Unnecessary use of Cold drinks
iv) Eating Non-nutrition food
v) Eating out-side the home
The percentage of overweight children is growing at an alarming rate. On the whole, children were spending less time exercising and more time in front of the TV and computer. And today’s busy families have fewer free moments to prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals, day in and day out. From fast food to electronics, quick and easy seems to be the mindset of many people, young and old, in the new millennium.
IMPACTS OF ADVERTISING
Modern life style has frozen the family size in the Pakistani society. Nuclear family has taken place of the joint family. Lifestyle trends in urban Pakistan (rising incomes, longer working hours, more working mothers, and time-poor/cash-rich parents) tend to support their families, which lead the child to watching television and increased consumption of unnecessary food. Furthermore, the advertising industry makes junk food seem irresistible.
Children who watch a lot of television have difficulty in concentrating at school because they are used to being given all the answers instead of being asked to think about questions. If children watch less television, their imagination will grow.
Unfortunately, children are not given proper guidance as to what they should do. The media is not playing its proper role in the promotion of childrenâs rights and the difficulties they have to face in the society. Even the authorities of Pakistan Television ignored this side and they can not design programs according to childrenâs requirements.
IMPACTS ON CHILDRENâS HEALTH
James suggests that âChildhood obesity arises from foods that are high in fat and low in fibre. When children eat this food, the insulin not only increases the effects of the pleasure-chemical dopamine (making the child want to eat more of the same food) but also reduces the effects of the hormone leptons, making the child want to eat more and be less activeâ.10
Television also has negative impacts, it creates eye problems. It stops the children from going out and playing with friends. Its advertising makes them buy things even if they do not need. It can make them tired and unable to focus on their lessons.
LEAVE UNHEALTHY HABITS
Gerbner said that the many media experts in Western countries who continue to be deeply anxious about the commercial context of television programming. They argue that television advertising leave impacts on society, particularly on the health of children, and television advertising is not going on air without reason.11
The impact of television on children has received much attention. Research suggests that children see television advertising as just another form of programming and react uncritically to its messages, which makes them especially vulnerable to advertising. There is also concern about the way in which children respond to advertising. Research indicates that many children are unduly influenced by this standard of health, become dissatisfied with their own bodies, and may develop eating disorders in pursuit of a thin figure. Advertising affect daily life and eating habits etc. The children as well as the teenager get influenced, consciously or unconsciously by advertisements of Pakistan television.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Every scientific discipline employs a particular methodology in conducting of research. This includes some assumptions and values which serve as a rationale (underlying reasons) for effort of research and standards criteria for the whole process. The basic purpose of this research study was investigating the negative impacts of eating habits/disorder on the health of children. For this purpose systematic random sampling method was used. The sample size was limited to 30 children aged between 8 â 12 years and their parents.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study was survey research about âImpacts of food product advertisements of Pakistan Television on eating habits of Childrenâ in Satellite Town (B-Block) Rawalpindi city. The researcher used questionnaire for parents and interviews of the children as instrument to gather the data.
POPULATION
In this research study children of age 8 â 12, and their parents in Rawalpindi city were the population of the study.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUE AND SAMPLE
Random and convenience sampling techniques were applied in this research for selecting the sample. The sampling frame was 30 children aged 8 â 12, and their parents from Satellite Town (B-Block) Rawalpindi city.
DEMOGRAPHIC VARIABLES
There are three demographic variables in this study:
i) Gender
ii) Age
iii) Qualification
RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
In order to realise the objective, a survey study was carried out. The data was collected mainly from the primary sources. A questionnaire was designed for parents. Childrenâs questionnaire was also used for structured interview.
DATA COLLECTION
Data was collected through questionnaire and interview. Questionnaire were distributed among the parents and administered by the researcher personally. Structured Interview was conducted to all children respondents of sample.
DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION
In this chapter the researcher analyzed the data of impacts of advertisements on the health of children. The data on the âImpacts of Food Product Advertisements of PTV on the Health of Children were collected through a questionnaire which was especially designed for this study. Primarily, cross-tabulation statistical procedure was applied to investigate relationship between demographic variables i.e. (gender, age, and qualification, and presented in graphs alongwith data tables with interpretation.
As evident form the graph 1, the majority of the male respondents (34% fell in the age category of 30 to 45 as well as female respondents in the same groups made 23%. The results showed that majority of the both groups respondents were youngster.
As evident from the graph 2, the majority of the male respondents (20%) was Doctor whereas 20% were running their business, 10% female respondents were Govt. employee and 10% were housewives.
Graph 3, showed that 57% of male respondents and 30% female respondents were highly qualified. So, male respondents were higher qualified as compared to female.
The graph 4 documents the monthly income of the parents-respondents. As evident from the graph that male respondent belongs to well earning families as compare to female respondents.
As evident from the graph 5 this shows the composition of families of the respondents, the majority of respondents having four members in their family.
As evident from the graph 6 all parent respondents watched PTV regularly.
As evident from the graph 7 that majority (13%) of male-respondents watched PTV in evening and late night as compare to female respondents who liked to watch Pakistan Television in morning and afternoon.
Graph 8 showed that majority of parent watches Pakistan Television for 2 to 3 hours daily.
Graph 9 reflects that all children respondents were regular viewers of Pakistan Television.
The results of the graph 10 shows that children like to watch television in evening mostly but some respondents like to watch in afternoon as well.
As evident from the graph 11, the majority (30%) of children respondents watches PTV for more than four hours daily. According to the data collected children of 8-12 years old were heavy viewers of PTV. Actually that is the problem area because watching television for long time i.e. more than five hours creates adverse effects on the health, especially children of 8-12 years old.
The results of the graph 12 shows that majority (33%) of children respondents like to watch children shows/quiz programmes as guided by their parents.
Graph 13 reflects that parents allow their children to watch PTV for the purpose of getting updated information and for entertainment as well.
Graph 14 is evident that male respondents felt tiredness when they watch PTV for more than 3 to 4 hours but female respondents got bored that means female liked to watch more than four hours.
As evident from the graph 15 that majority of respondents (40%) watched ads around 15-20 and 20% saw more than 25 ads in an hour. Its means that during one hour program a lot of food-products were advertised on PTV which instigated children to buy these products on their own or ask their parents to buy the same for them.
As evident from the graph 16 that majority of both parent and children respondents usually liked to buy cold-drinks but some children responded that they also liked to buy chips type products as well. These products increase fats on the body especially in children because the age 8-12 years is the grooming age and they need proper and nutritionist diet for their health.
As evident from the graph 17 parent respondents, responded that children attitude was changed if they did not buy or allow them to buy such edibles. They behave aggressively with their elders or parents.
The results of the graph 18 show the impacts of Pakistan Televisionâs ads on children. Parents responded that their children tried to imitate when they saw ads, but some parents responded that they felt some aggressiveness during/after watching ads because advertiser showed super human actions.
As results of the graph 19 shows that parents always buy food products on their childrenâs demand because they were well earned (refer to graph no. 4). They fulfilled all demands of their children whatever they demanded for eating. This eating habit created eating-disorder in the children of 8-12 years old.
As evident from the graph 20 that parents felt that PTVâs ads effected their childrenâs diet because their children having enough money to buy belong to upper class families (refer to graph no.4).
As evident of graph 21 that parents responded that these ads increased eating disorder and decreased health of their children.
FINDINGS
The purpose of this research was to find out Impacts of Food Product Advertisements of Pakistan Television on the Eating Habits of Children. The major variables those are likely to have a significant impact of Pakistan Television ads on childrenâs health.
In Pakistan almost all the children have been watching television regularly. The information about childrenâs spending time on viewing television was to estimate their exposure to the variety of advertisements. Variation of advertisingâs influence has been observed differently in one child to another, and from day to day for the same child. Nevertheless, some general influence of advertising on children were observed, which presented in chapter 4 at graph 9.
According to the graph 11; all the children have been watching television daily. 23% children saw television for up to 3 hours and 30% were watched television up to 4 hours a day. Thus, they were found heavy and regular viewers. Most of the children spend quite a lot of time sitting in front of television screen watching various programmes.
Thus, children of 8 to 10 years old were found to be more attracted towards television ads and they watched them with great interest but with the increasement in the age, childrenâs preferences shifted towards television programmes.
Most of the children in all age groups watched the television ads with great. That means many audio-visual techniques in television advertising were simply aimed at gaining, and holding childrenâs attention, which impressed them to purchase various products. Thus, television advertisements could really make a tremendous impact on children. The researcher found out the following aspects:
1) Children of 8-12 years old and their parents were watched Pakistan Television TV regularly. Most of the male parent liked to watch at late night but female parent liked to watch at morning and evening and their children liked to watch at evening. The parentsâ watching span was 2-3 hours but their childrenâs watching span was 4-5 hours daily.
2) Children liked to watch children shows/quiz programmes but their parents allowed them to watch of PTV for getting information and entertainment as well.
3) Male respondents felt tiredness when they watched PTV for more than 3 to 4 hours but female respondents got bored that means female liked to watch more than four hours.
4) Majority of parents and children usually liked to buy cold-drinks but some children also liked to buy chips type products as well. The researcher find out that these products increase fats on the body especially in children because the age 8-12 years is the grooming age and they need proper and nutritionist diet for their health.
5) Childrenâs attitude was changed if they did not buy or allow them to buy such edibles. They behaved aggressively with their elders or parents.
6) The children tried to imitate when they saw ads, but some parents responded that they felt some aggressiveness during/after watching ads because advertiser showed super human actions.
7) Parents always bought readymade food products on their childrenâs demand because they were well earned (refer to graph no. 4). They fulfilled all demands of their children whatever they demanded for eating. This eating habit created eating-disorder in the children of 8-12 years old.
Ads of PTV effected their childrenâs diet because their children having enough money to buy such edible belong to upper class families (refer to graph no.4).
9) Ads of Pakistan Television increased eating disorder and decreased health of children of 8-12 years old.
CONCLUSION
Mostly children are addicted to viewing TV their average of viewing is more then 60% that means they are watching TV more then five hours per day, they are heavy viewers. After/during watching TVâs ads most of the children demanding drinks i.e. coca-cola, des, Pepsi these drinks develops unhealthy habits of children. Some children ages of 10-12 are trying to imitate the same action which they seen during that ads, which are dangerous for their lives.
The data of this research study proves that fats increased in the body of people especially in children, if they regularly drink these products. Increases fat in the body is not good sign because fat creates obesity and hear-diseases. Children are over weight according to their age and height because they are regularly use these cold drinks and eating fried meats outside the home with their parents or elders.
Children having less weight according to their BMI itâs due to their eating disorder. They think that if we eat and drink more than other we have good muscles but their stomachs are not digesting the such food properly, so eating disorder increased and after a couple of months their weight is decreasing. That is only for their eating disorder. They seen that the performer of powder-milk ads is healthier because s/he drink that milk after that they trying to buy and drink that power-milk but they do not know the actual picture.
RECOMMENDATIONS
After concluding the results of the data the researcher give the following recommendations:
i) Policymakers need to take steps to better protect children from exposure to advertising because of the inherent unfairness of advertising to audiences who lack the capability to evaluate wrong information in television advertising.
ii) Parents should attempt to restrict their childrenâs TV time.
iii) Teachers and parents can help children to decide what they should watch on TV.
iv) Adults should look out for things their children do not understand on TV.
v) Parents should also keep an eye on any other negative effects of watching Pakistan Television on childrenâs health, eating-disorder and their eye sight problems.
vi) Children should be encouraged both in their schools and at home to discuss television advertising.
vii) Parents/Teachers should help children to look for programmes which relevant for their health and has some positive impacts on their health of Pakistan Television.

Cold Sores – a Pandemic?
by admin on Sep.01, 2010, under Cold
Cold Sores – a Pandemic?
Cold sores virus infects an incredible 89% of the world population, the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) estimates.
YES – and 67% of those infected with the cold sores virus will have at least one cold sore event in the next 12 months.
And 47.5% of those folks will have multiple cold sores episodes during that period.
Cold sores are one of our most contagious viruses – and one of our oldest. Even in ancient Rome, an epidemic of cold sores caused Emperor Tiberius to outlaw kissing in public ceremonies.
As a global epidemic, or “pandemic”, there is no better example than cold sores.
NO – cold sores, unlike bird flu, aren’t life threatening. But, let’s be frank, cold sores are hideous – and they’re painful. On top of that, cold sores cause flu like symptoms such as fever and swollen lymph glands in a lot of people.
Cold sores last 3 to 4 weeks on average – a long time for you to be socially sidelined! They shout “I HAVE HERPES” to the entire world.
And cold sores cost us money in lost days at work and constant purchase of medications. Always hoping to finally find something – ANYTHING – to stop our cold sores curse.
Check out these little known facts about cold sores – and what you can do right now to get rid of your cold sores problem.
Cold sores are caused by the reproductive cycle of a herpes virus. There are currently 8 known human herpes viruses. Of these, only 2 are a major cause of cold sores.
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV1) is responsible for about 80% of facial cold sores – and about 20% of genital herpes lesions. Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 (HSV2) causes about 20% of cold sores and 80% of genital herpes blisters.
HSV1 is most often referred to as the “cold sores virus”, “fever blister virus” and “oral herpes” – and some others that I can’t mention in a public article.
Cold sores virus may be latent (asleep) for weeks or years in the nerve ganglia near the back of the jaw close to the brain stem.
More specifically, the cold sores virus hides inside your cells – making it very difficult for your body defenses to locate and deal with them.
When your body’s defenses weaken, due to physical or emotional stress, the cold sores virus leaves these cells, travel down the nerve fibers, like a super-highway to the lip or nose surface – to create cold sores.
There are 8 cold sore stages. The first is the latent inactive stage. The next 7 cold sore stages are the ACTIVE stages. From the first tingle to the last red spot, your cold sores are extremely contagious.
Cold sores are most often spread by physical contact – but can even be transmitted by coughing or sneezing during the active stages of your cold sores.
Medical science is working around-the-clock to find a cure for common cold sores. They’ve had a few minor breakthroughs that may lead to some real solutions in the next couple of years.
Basically medical scientists are approaching the cold sores virus on 2 levels.
1. A VACCINE preventing you from actually contracting the cold sores virus in the first place. One such vaccine is currently being moved into human testing. Downside is – it only works on people who have never been exposed to cold sores virus. Since nearly everyone on the planet has been exposed, it seems of very little value even if approved. But it’s an encouraging move forward.
2. AN ANTI-VIRAL to kill the cold sore virus already in our body. This is difficult since it has to find and kill the virus without damaging the nerve cells they are hiding in. The prescription anti-viral medications scientists have come up with so far have not worked very well at all – at least on cold sores virus.
Acyclovir, for example, is an anti-viral that’s being promoted as a cold sores wonder drug. In real life studies, however, a course of acyclovir only reduced cold sores by 2 days. And it only worked for 47.8% in the trials. No big deal here.
Acyclovir topical cream came in even worse – no noticeable help at all. Medical scientists agree and have publicly stated that the actives in acyclovir don’t get through the skin to the infection. Don’t waste your money on this.
COLD SORES NATURAL SCIENCE TO THE RESCUE!
Did you know – medical knowledge has more than doubled in the past 5 years alone? Worldwide internet communication has made it possible.
More important – natural home remedies, such as effective cold sores treatments, are coming in from all corners of the globe.
In fact, many doctors are now advising their patients to check out these natural remedies for cold sores.
Data studies have shown these natural remedies to reduce suffering time of cold sores by an incredible 79% – plus actually PREVENTING future cold sores from happening altogether (they don’t kill the cold sores virus – but they do keep it inactive indefinitely).
If you’re a cold sores victim, your best choice – fact is, your ONLY choice today – is to buy and apply one of these excellent natural remedies.
There are several solidly proven remedies for you to look into on this site or other sites – and the best news is they’re available right now for your cold sores.

Dog Illnesses
All pet dogs should be treated as members of our family and adequate attention must be paid to the canine’s health. Sometimes dogs become sick but may not look so. It is very important to recognize and understand dog illnesses symptoms.
Since prevention is a better cure, we must learn something about dog illnesses and symptoms so we can better understand their conditions. This will help us recognize some common dog illnesses. If appropriate and adequate vaccinations are administered to the puppies, most of the common dog illnesses can be easily prevented.
Some elementary observations are useful to recognize certain common dog illnesses. Dogs take a lot of sleep but their sleep is marked by alertness. If a dog is sluggish then there may be various causes contributing to it, right from anemia to old age. If the dog is limping then you should check for prospective painful areas using a firm and yet gentile hand. Check out for any signs indicating lameness from time to time.
The appetite of the dog is bound to be affected by ill health. Look for any signs of loss of appetite. An important sign of dog health problems is excessive thirst. A pronounced weight loss is also an indicator of ill health. Check the eyes for any ulcers, discharges, veins or sores.
The mouth of a healthy dog is pink. There should not be any discoloring or cavities in the teeth. Look for signs of discharge from ears. It is advisable to clean the ears from time to time. The dog’s head should be regularly checked for sore patches, hair loss, or deep wounds.
Investigate the limbs and trunk for the same signs. If the dog is vomiting, there may be various underlying problems. If the body temperature of your dog is not between the range 38 to 39 Celsius it is an indication of some kind of illness. Check the female dogs for any kind of foul smelling vaginal discharge, which needs attention of a vet.
The symptoms of pain and discomfort experienced by a dog can give us many clues about the possible underlying illness. If the dog is suffering any abdominal pain, it may be due to canine hepatitis, enteritis or it can be a simple case of constipation. The abdominal swelling dogs indicate canine bloat and roundworms in puppies. Aggression of the dog may be caused by rabies. Roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms my cause anemia in dogs. Any behavioral changes in dog can be an indicator of hookworms, tapeworms, whipworms, canine arthritis, heart disease, canine, or parvovirus.
Kidney diseases sometimes cause blood in urine. Eye infections and entropion cause bloodshot eyes in dogs. A ruptured diaphragm, obstructed airway, lungworm, bronchitis, pneumonia, food poisoning, heatstroke, allergies can cause respiratory problems in dogs.
There are various reasons of sudden change in weight of dogs like heart disease to heartworms. Hernia might be caused due to long term constipation in dogs. Allergies, parvovirus, hepatitis, lungworm, TB, pneumonia or distemper may be one of the reasons of coughing in dogs. Cannine parvovirus can also cause dehydration in dogs. Any pancreatic disorder, food poisoning can give rise to diarrhea in dogs. The dog may suffer from hair loss due to mange, red mange demodectic, scabies, cheyletiella mange, or cushings syndrome.
If dog indicates any signs of failing genital bleeding, persistent constipation, projectile vomiting, fainting, hair loss, seizure, stumbling, trauma, trembling, mouth bleeding, rectal bleeding, lethargy, shaking, urinating problems contact a dog care specialist.

Mum’s Big Idea for Tiny Babies
A Busy mum has set up a business to help the parents of premature babies. Mum of one Sharon Ward, 36, set up Teddy & Me whilst juggling the care of four-year-old son Louis and working in a warehouse until 11pm.
The Kenilworth based business has taken off and Sharon is already winning praise – she has been nominated for Yell.com’s Inspirational Business Mum of the year award.
Sharon said: “The idea came about through my involvement with the charity ADAPT, which supports the parents of premature babies in neonatal units.” “I realised there was a lack of suitable, well fitting clothing available and wanted to help alleviate the problem.” “I initially thought I would be able to buy clothes from a manufacturer and sell them but I couldn’t find anyone making them.”
“So with the support of a pattern maker and my husband Jon, plus help and advice from paediatricians, neonatal specialists and parents, I designed them myself and had them manufactured at a factory in the Midlands”
The tiny outfits, which start at 400grams, take into consideration any tubes/drips and monitors the babies may have attached, whist offering maximum comfort and ease of dressing. Sharon also wanted to help the many parents who lose their babies to prematurity and stillbirth, by creating resting garments for babies weighing less than 3.5kg (8lbs).
A spokes women from the awards said: “The award recognises the commitment, energy, drive and determination of business mums and the specific challenges they face combining entrepreneurship with motherhood.” Finalists will be notified at the end of May.

Moon as the Earliest Calendar

Moon as the Earliest Calendar
Moon as the Earliest Calendar give readers of the Holy Bible information recorded in ancient times. Lunar/solar calendars were common throughout the ancient world. Three calendar systems that help our study of Bible times are the Jewish, Mesoamerican and the Egyptian calendars. Changes in the appearance of the moon at night provide the seven-day week. Time steps in the lunar/solar calendar accumulate for longer time cycles.

Moon as the Earliest Calendar
I AM speaks to people through His Word, the Holy Bible. Historical, inspirational and supernatural, the Bible has been with us since calendar recording began. Readers of the Holy Bible can understand the records of ancient times. We discern what the numbered ages in the Old Testament actually mean by using three oldest calendars. Three calendar systems that help our study of Bible times are the Jewish, Mesoamerican and the Egyptian calendars. These three calendars allow us to trace back into remote prehistory. The word prehistory includes the “before time”, and the compound of “His” and “story.” Scientists who have worked with these very early cultures can provide the basic calendar methods that were once used to measure time. We need to review the Lord’s units of main time keeping to see the way ancient humanity dealt with time observation.
Early parts of the Old Testament mention days and years together. Time and the Biblical Creation include major fundamental concepts known to the ancient Jewish people. The Old Testament provides our first realistic ideas about time reckoning and recording. The Lord defines the day and night in the book of Genesis. The very first calendar of one day had begun. Description of the seven-day Creative Week further defines basic operation of the calendar. The sacred seven-day week is a fundamental religious idea. Four phases of the moon marked four weekly intervals during the month. Approximate lunar phases are attached to the origins of the calendar Sabbath week. Seven-day weeks and lunar months create the lunar-side of the lunar/solar calendars.
We are discovering ancient days when timekeepers watched the sun, moon and stars. The Jewish Calendar is simple when you understand the numbers used. The Jewish Calendar is based on the sun and moon together and measures chronology in numbered years from the Creation year 1. Modern recorded dates denote this era as B.C.E. for “Before Common Era”. Christianity dates according to the birth of Christ. The same B.C.E. initials mean “Before Christian Era” or simply B.C. for “Before Christ.” Time reckoning after Christ applies the A.D. marking of Anno Domini, which stems from the Latin meaning: “After Divinity” in the year of our Lord.
Calendar systems map world chronology according to different beginnings. Some follow Jewish tradition and put the Creation date at 5,767 years ago or about 3,761 years B.C.E. Others credit Archbishop Ussher with calculating in 1,701 A.D. that Creation took place in 4,004 B.C. The Egyptian Calendar begins between 4,236 B.C.E. and 4,241 B.C.E., along with Egyptian mythology explaining the world’s creation. Starting dates depend on star observation in Egypt, since that is the only way primal society had to mark calendar years. Another plan estimates the starting Mayan Calendar date to be 3,113 B.C.E. Shared calendar characteristics enable deeper inspection of prehistoric time reckoning. Sacred texts and current science provide clues needed to reconstruct the oldest Biblical history. Important traits gathered from past calendar time streams become woven together to obtain hybrid insight. Three ancient calendar systems form the world’s oldest trunk line of calendar science. God used a lunar/solar calendar to write listed ages for the Antediluvian Patriarchs. The family of Adam heralds new discovery from the earliest time.
Ages of Adam will aid you through better understanding of the Old Testament and significant calendar information. The work at timeemits.com stresses time reckoning and recording. We return to the origins of day and night that lead up to the sacred seven-day week to explore this affinity between God above and calendar times.
Genesis 1:4
“And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”
God was “between” the light, and the darkness in the literal Hebrew definition. This basic interlinear Bible definition establishes a slightly different thought of God being between or separating, daylight on the one hand, and darkness on the other. This meaning sets the precedence for identifying day and night.
Genesis 1:5
“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
The Lord put two great lights in heaven, one to rule the day and one to rule the night. The light of the sun measured the day and the light of the moon measured time greater than a day. The greater light is, of course, the sun. Everything we call solar deals with the sun. The lesser light, or luminary, is the moon. The word lunar relates to the moon or the month. The sun and moon identify as luminaries.
This work of God, of dividing, separating or coming between daylight and darkness to measure time is the basic premise of the original Jewish calendar. Calendars, time, and the sacred seven-day week have inspired the purest of time references to the Holy Bible. We must examine formative religions and ideas about time. In chapter 5 of Genesis, a correlation exists between the “begat” genealogy following Adam and numerical ties to ancient calendars. Adam and his descendants through Noah are the Antediluvian Patriarchs. Antediluvian tells us they were before the great flood of Noah and all were Patriarchs or fore fathers of humanity. The Holy Bible provides our greatest treasure of calendar history and early theology. The Master of the Universe, He who sits upon the throne of glory and grace, stretches forth His right hand to give us time.
We become one human race when you put man and woman together. There are two literal Hebrew definitions involved here. Adam meant “the man,” in the literal Hebrew sense of the word. Adam, the word, differs from a personal pronoun name like Bob or John. Adam is the human being, the generic man or a breathing creature. Adam in this work refers to the universal, generic meaning for man. The man is a derivative form of the root word that describes reddish clay, soil or dust. Literal word searches furnish meanings that aid our calendar study. A synthesis of faiths and mythology sharpen initial views regarding civilization. People have always marked birth and death by the calendar. Calendars unite with the spiritual afterlife in memorials. Early religions recognized conceptions of the spirit and soul after death by burial and by saying “from dust unto dust.” The lifetime of Adam is given precise lunar/solar years in chapter 5 of Genesis.
Eve is the woman in literal Hebrew. She is the life-giver, mother to the living, or child-bearer. The feminine fertility issue has always been associated with lunar observation. The lunar month forever etches upon humanity the moon — mother perceptions of ancient times. Cycles of new moons were basic time reckoning ingredients for lunar/solar calendars. Where Eve represented the feminine side of human order according to lunar observation, Adam represented the masculine, solar side, according to solar positioning on the horizon. In other words, Adam’s male image also implied meaning toward the rising and setting positions of the sun through all four seasons during the year. Adam and Eve have embedded connections with primitive cosmology.
Clarification of God resting on the seventh day defines a separation between successive time frames. God again divides, separates or is between the light and darkness of the moon. Repeated instances in a theme show a holy relationship is present between specific divisions of calendar times. Transition from one lunar phase ending to commencement of the next lunar phase is the most revered unit of time measurement known. God set aside the Sabbath Day as holy. God consecrated the Jewish Shabbat for all time to come. The sacred Jewish significance of the seven-day week and the number seven elsewhere support religious observance of the moon as an early calendar.
The lunar/solar calendar begins to emerge with a variety of ultimate connotations. Day unto night, between the weeks as Sabbath, new moon crescents and finally intercalary days all continue divine providence upon Earth. Time steps in the lunar/solar calendar accumulate for longer time cycles. Years and then multiple of years exhibit the same religious notions to vast proportions.
Changes in the appearance of the moon at night provide the seven-day week. Divisions of seven-days separate the four basic lunar phases noted in figure 1. Starting with a new moon crescent, the moon gradually comes into view on following nights. The first half of the moon is visible in about seven-days. The moon waxes until full moon at the end of two weeks. Lunar light reverses progression in the third week, waning to half visibility. A fourth week completes the month and visibility diminishes toward a new moon. Completion of four lunar phases comprises the month. The true lunar month measures 29.53-days. Ancient calendar makers recorded approximations according to actual observation. Whole lunar months of 29-days or 30-days were the common practice in lunar/solar calendar systems. The average lunar month of 29.5-days repeats upon sighting the new moon crescent. Light and darkness classify lunar phases in the lunar-side of lunar/solar calendars. Original interpretations of lunar time place God between the weeks on Sabbath Days.
Lunar/solar calendar foundations of the Jewish calendar extend from the earliest verses of scripture. Natural, uniform motions of the heavenly spheres are the pivotal markers of time reckoning. The list of ancient characters mentioned in the Old Testament used this lunar/solar calendar system of time recording. Observation of lunar phases coupled with solar positioning graduated the lifetime ages of Adam and his descendants. Well over ten thousand years ago, proto-historical calendar makers had developed advanced sciences such as mathematics and astronomy. Intercalary days add to the lunar year of twelve-moon-months in order to complete our modern solar year of 365-days. Necessary intercalations best describe lunar/solar separation time by “coming between” lunar and solar times.
Time Equations
There are 12 finished lunar months during the current 365-day-solar-year. Since day one, that has never changed. An average lunar month is about 29.5-days long measured against a starry nighttime background. There are four quarters during one-lunar-month. From new moon, which shows no moonlight, to the first phase of the moon, or half the lighted moon, about one week has passed. Moonlight waxes to full-moon stage after two weeks. Reversing the pattern, the third week of the month wanes visibility to diminish the moon’s light back to halfway again. The fourth weekly period continues the waning retreat of moonlight until again repeating the new moon. Twelve mature lunar months multiply by 29.5-days per lunar month for 354-days to approximate the lunar year (Eqn. 1).
Time differences between lunar and solar calendar years provide lunar/solar calendar adjustments or intercalations. Subtraction yields 11 days of lunar/solar separation time between the lunar year of 12-moon-months and the 365-day-solar-year (Eqn. 2). Eleven days of difference every year were the staple for lunar/solar calendars. During 19-years, 11-days of lunar/solar separation time every year multiply this division between lunar years and solar years (Eqn. 3). Lunar/solar separation time measures 209-days of difference after 19-years have passed. Therefore, any 19-year lunar/solar calendar cycle had to incorporate these remaining 209-days of separation as intercalary days in order to catch up the lunar-side of the calendar, with the solar-side of the calendar. Intercalary systems varied between cultures to compensate calendar recording. The Mayan Calendar escalates the same intercalations to distribute 210-days over a 20-year lunar/solar calendar cycle (Eqn. 3).
Throughout this text, ‘lunar/solar’ denotes calendar terminology that pertains to lunar and solar time. Variations include ‘lunar/solar separation time’ to indicate time between lunar years and solar years. Occasionally the phrase is abbreviated ‘l/s’. Lunar-side specifically addresses time measured according to lunar or moon reckoning. Solar-side time splits address time that depends upon solar or sun reckoning. Lunar/solar calendar time is the most important approach to survey ancient calendars.
Equations
1. 12-Month-Lunar-Year
29.5 day-lunar-month
x 12 lunar-months in lunar-year
= 354 day-lunar-year
2. 11-Days of Lunar/Solar Separation Time
365 day-solar-year
- 354 day-lunar-year
= 11 days of l/s separation time per l/s calendar year
3. Lunar/Solar Separation Time for 20-year-L/S-Cycle
11-days of Separation per l/s calendar year
x 19-year-l/s-calendar cycle
= 209 days of separation per 19-year-l/s-cycle
Approximates to 210 Days of Separation per 20-year l/s-cycle
The lunar/solar calendar begins to emerge with a variety of ultimate connotations. Day unto night, between the weeks as Sabbath, new moon crescents and finally intercalary days all continue divine providence upon Earth. Time steps in the lunar/solar calendar accumulate for longer time cycles. Years and then multiple of years exhibit the same religious notions to vast proportions.
Lunar/solar calendars were common throughout the ancient world. Different calendar systems employed the 19-year cycle with slight variations. Study of the Jewish Calendar provides the necessary understanding that is fundamental to lunar/solar calendar cycles. Equally important, the Jewish Calendar was the mainstay time recording plan found throughout the Old Testament.

Starring Sam Rockwell, Matt Berry, Robin Chalk, Dominique McElligott and Kevin Spacey as the robot. A truly unique film: It is the near future. Astronaut Sam Bell is living on the far side of the moon, completing a three-year contract with Lunar Industries to mine Earths primary source of energy, Helium-3. It is a lonely job, made harder by a broken satellite that allows no live communications home. Taped messages are all Sam can send and receive. Thankfully, his time on the moon is nearly over, and Sam will be reunited with his wife, Tess, and their three-year-old daughter, Eve, in only a few short weeks. Finally, he will leave the isolation of Sarang, the moon base that has been his home for so long, and he will finally have someone to talk to beyond Gerty, the bases well-intentioned, but rather uncomplicated computer. Directed by Duncan Jones.

What is the Moon?

What is the Moon?
The Moon is the Earth’s relaxed satellite. It orbits the Earth on a recurrent origin, much the same as the Earth orbits the Sun. The orbit of the Moon around the Earth creates numerous interesting conditions and in actuality can wholly influence the Earth and each on it.
The Moon orbits the Earth with a synchronous rotation. This means that almost the same face of the Moon is faced towards the Earth always. In truth, only 59% of the face of the Moon can ever be practical from Earth. As the moon rotates, it also completes its orbit.
The Moon completes one orbit of the Earth in 27.3 years, but because during this time, the Earth is also affecting, an inclusive astral sequence is 29.5 living. These planetary cycles are responsible for the phases of the moon. The planetary rotation begins with the new moon. The new moon is when the moon first appears as a small sliver. Some cultures and even some calendars will use this new moon as the source for the opening of a new month.
Over the course of the next 14 or so living, the lighted face of the moon will persist to become bigger and larger. During this procedure, the moon rotation is called waxing gibbous. After 1 week, it will resemble a half moon and after the about 14 time, it will resemble a full Moon. Over the course of the next 14 or so existence, the lighted face of the moon will decrease. This is the vanishing gibbous rotation. At the end of 7 days, it will be half a moon and by the end of 14 days, the lighted vicinity will flee and the round will arise again.
This series brings up the first of the orbital property of the moon on society and taste. The 29.5 day moon sequence corresponds with 1 month. The 12 cycles per year corresponds with the 12 months of the year. The about 7 days from each half of the moon corresponds with 1 week. Farther more, this cycle of the Moon also corresponds with the menstrual cycle of many women.
The moon’s synchronous rotation as it orbits the Earth also causes the tides. As the moon orbits the Earth, the gravitational haul of the Moon is causing water to hump towards it, causes a deluge. This related weight will exist on the far side of the Earth as well, hence there are two rush cycles every day.
The Moon’s orbit causes eclipses to happen as well. There are two kinds of eclipses, the solar cover and the stellar cover. The lunar overpower occurs when the Earth is between the sun and the moon. The lunar conceal is exclusive in that we are able to behold the shadow of the Earth being cast on the moon. When the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth, we see a solar eclipse. The Moon is momentary over the shallow of the Sun.
There are so many things of the Moon’s orbit. It has a very single relationship with us. It has unnatural our ethnicity, our corporal being and even the forces of quality that affect our world. The Moon shows us how interconnected we are to the universe around us.

Past Life Regression Therapy Explained for Boomers

Past Life Regression Therapy Explained for Boomers
Past life regression therapy or PLR is based on the principle of re-incarnation. It means that all of us have had many past lives and that life and death are a part of a constant cycle. According to the believers of past life regression therapy a lot of our present problems may result from the cellular memories of our past lives. For instance a phobia of water could be the result of death by drowning in a past life. PLR therapists claim that unexplained pains and aches in the body, a variety of psychological problems, negative relationships and sometimes even some diseases could be the result of painful or troubled past life memories.
How does PLR therapy work?
Past life regression therapists use clinical hypnosis to delve into their client’s subconscious. According to believers of PLR, the memories of all our past lives are buried somewhere in our subconscious, we may believe that some of our actions and thoughts are our natural instincts but they are actually directed by our subconscious. For instance an instinctive dislike towards someone could be the result of a negative relationship shared with them in a past life.
The therapist starts a PLR session by inducing a trance like state in the client, then with the help of visual imagery one is supposedly transported to a past life. The client sees images and scenes of a past life (which may be affecting his/her present life) replayed in front of his/her eyes like a movie, some may see it as flashes and to others the images appear as they do in the mind’s eye. The therapist takes the client through the important years of the life they are seeing and finally moves towards the time of the client’s death in the previous life. The client sees himself/herself dying, feels like he/she is floating towards the sky, with the help of suggestions from the therapist the client is able to see his/her angels. Most people report receiving messages at this stage about the purpose of their previous life and sometimes even about the purpose and problems in their present life; with this the session is concluded and the therapist brings the client out of their trance (hypnosis). People who have undergone this therapy claim that seeing a past life is like standing at a distance and watching yourself, you feel real emotions, yet you know you are only a silent by-stander watching images of a life you have already lived.
It is believed that once you realize that your present problems are the result of painful memories from your past life, you will able to overcome them.
Does it have scientific validity?
The scientific and the medical world do not endorse and strongly disagree with claims of past life regression therapists. They attribute any positive effects of past life therapy to the placebo effect, which means that people believe they are getting better because, they are told that the therapy would help them. Moreover, non-believers also suggest that what people call an “image/scene of a past life” is actually just their imagination and the suggestions from therapists make them feel that their imagination is real. According to psychiatrists sometimes we confuse a lucid dream or vividly imagined experience with an actual memory(these are called false memories). We recall the imagined or dreamt experience as real, even though the event or incident never happened in real life. Past life memories according to many psychiatrists and doctors is exactly that, our imagination which seems real.
So should one believe in it?
Though there is no proven research which suggests that we actually have multiple lives or that our past lives have any affect on our present lives, a lot of people not only believe in this therapy but claim that they have benefitted from it. In fact a famous psychiatrist Dr. Brian Weiss is one of the most talked about and prominent advocates of this therapy. Yet, if one listens to the voice of so called “rationality” doubts are bound to arise. Moreover all religions do not agree with the concept of re-incarnation either, therefore to believe or not to believe becomes a matter of faith and choice.
